Emission Reduction Targets
Commit to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 75% by 2030 (compared to 2005 levels) across all sectors—electricity, industry, transport, agriculture, land, waste, and the built environment.
This exceeds Australia’s current commitment of a 43% reduction by 2030, set in the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) under the Paris Agreement.
Aim for net zero emissions by 2035, bringing forward the national target by 15 years to reflect the scale of the challenge and the speed required.
Fossil Fuel Phase-Out
Stop new approvals for coal and gas projects, including extensions for export purposes. This is in line with global agreements reached at COP28, where nations committed to transitioning away from fossil fuels in energy systems.
Eliminate fossil fuel subsidies, so taxpayers aren’t footing the bill for pollution. This is consistent with Australia’s G20 commitment to phase out inefficient fossil fuel subsidies that encourage wasteful consumption.
Strengthening Climate Mechanisms
Amend the Safeguard Mechanism to prevent the use of low-integrity or “junk” carbon offsets and ensure genuine emissions reductions.
Climate action must be real and measurable—not just creative accounting.
Transition to Renewable Energy
Power the country with renewables backed by battery storage to ensure reliability and sustainability.
This aligns with the Federal Government’s Powering Australia plan, which aims to boost renewables, cut emissions, and create clean jobs.
Electrification
Electrify industrial processes and transition to zero or neutral-emission fuels across all sectors, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and decreasing industrial emissions.
Electrify everything - Increase subsidies to households, businesses, transport. Helps climate, helps cost of living.
Transport Modernisation
Accelerate the shift to shared, active, and fully electric public transport to reduce emissions and modernise infrastructure.
This supports Victoria's climate action targets, which include modernising and electrifying public transport systems.
There’s no time left for delay or distraction. We are in a climate emergency. We need decisive climate action that matches the urgency of the science—and the expectations of our community.
It is clear both to me and the community how important this issue is and how much more we need to do. You can trust me to listen and act on the science and be the voice for Chisholm when it comes to taking meaningful and critical climate action.
